As a conservative Presbyterian (a follower of the Scottish covenanters), I think a closer relation of church and state would be a good thing. In the words of the Solemn League and Covenant (1643), it would allow this:
“That we shall, in like manner, without respect of persons, endeavour the extirpation of Popery….”
After all, fortunately, the Church of Rome is not a majority sect in the USA.
