As a man with almost 36 years of marriage under my belt, I listened to your podcast the other day. Your points were all well taken and should be stressed in Pre-Cana sessions. My wife and I made some of the mistakes but successfully worked to correct them; most notably, getting too caught up in the business of schedules, work and children at the expense of our relationship – which is the bedrock of the family. But I can affirm that the work of marriage is what makes it so satisfying.
I often think of Thornton Wilder’s words from The Skin of Our Teeth, as the wife says to the husband in a time of trouble: “I didn’t marry you because you were perfect. I didn’t even marry you because I loved you. I married you because you gave me a promise. That promise made up for your faults. And the promise I gave you made up for mine. Two imperfect people got married and it was the promise that made the marriage. And when our children were growing up, it wasn’t a house that protected them; and it wasn’t our love that protected them–it was that promise.”
Engaged couples need to read that, digest it, and take it to heart.
Be well!

I just finished listening to your latest episode (7 Strategies to have an Unbreakable Marriage). I really liked an agree with the points mentioned, but I am somewhat dismayed. In the night cap, you mentioned your Miraculous medal ring, but in no way said where you got it from. I’m sure I won’t be the only one asking, so maybe mention where you had made your purchase, or maybe even work some deal to carry the rings in your “shop”. Again, great podcast and God Bless.

Hi Robert, Great question. Unfortunately, I had it custom-made and I designed it with a local jeweler. I can send you pictures of it if you email us at info@catholicgentleman.com and request.
